Although Duchamp had collected manufactured objects in his studio in Paris, it was not until he came to New York that he identified them as a category of art, giving the English name "Readymade" to any object purchased "as a sculpture already made." When he modified these objects, for example by mounting a bicycle wheel on a kitchen stool, he called them "Assisted Readymades." Duchamp later recalled that the original Bicycle Wheel was created as a "distraction": "I enjoyed looking at it, just as I enjoy looking at the flames dancing in a fireplace."

The artist is a not great creator—Duchamp went shopping at a plumbing store. The artwork is not a special object—it was mass-produced in a factory. The experience of art is not exciting and ennobling—at best it is puzzling and mostly leaves one with a sense of distaste. But over and above that, Duchamp did not select just any ready-made object to display. In selecting the urinal, his message was clear: Art is something you piss on.

Castles. Pork. Cobblestone. Beer.
I will say that being in Prague reminded me of my experience in Berlin. What do I mean? They party HARDER than I ever could. There was a slew of pork wherever I went and I balled out on the beer. 🤷🏾♀️
As I previously mentioned, I’m glad I saw the city for myself because I refuse to live in the world of “what if”. My tour guide was pretty funny and she taught us a lot in 6 hours. I also appreciate Meeting random folks when I travel solo that can have me laughing for hours or dancing into the night like we are old friends.
I’m staying stationary in Dallas for the next 6/7 weeks and while I appreciate the anticipated rest, I’ll definitely miss being abroad and carefree. I have quite a few new posts up on the blog so go ahead and visit and let me know what you think. ✈️💕
Magenta sky over Amsterdam
A great place to sit on a terrace is on this square on the Torensluis bridge that crosses the Singel canal. Here you can have a drink and watch people of the neighborhood passing by. There is a huge statue of Multatuli but more importantly, one of the best chocolate bonbon shops in the Netherlands - Puccini 😍😃

Beautiful slice of past. This nostalgic Ottoman-style town may have you surprised to learn that it was one of the most heavily bombed cities during the war following the break up of Yugoslavia. Though many visible signs of Mostar’s troubled recent history remain, this formerly war-torn city is one lively and beautiful destination once again.
