Did you know the Eiffel Tower was only temporary? 😱
One of the most iconic structures in the world was only approved by the city officials of Paris to remain standing on the site for 20 years or until 1909. It was almost scrapped until the city decided to save it utilizing it’s height as a radiotelegraph station, most notably in World War I.
Built for the World’s Fair the Eiffel Tower was to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the French Revolution.
After 2 years of construction the Eiffel Tower was completed in March of 1889 standing at a staggering 1,000 feet. The tallest structure in the world in it’s day until 1930. Today the Eiffel Tower holds the record for the most visited paid attraction in the world.
